Vincent Laforet – Directing Motion Tour – Daytime Movement & Direction Workshop
At the beginning of the evening session, we’ll review the edited footage captured on the three live shoots during the day, drawing useful inferences from the techniques utilized as a group, which will cement the core concepts of the class.
Next, I will walk you through exactly what a director of a short film or commercial project must know, using my most recent projects as a teaching reference.
We’ll review writing treatments, the pitch, initial storyboarding, reference selection, location selection, tech scouts, casting, schedules, glimpse into budgets, and analyze how all of these items are used to further your number one goal: creating the best set of circumstances to tell a story. By understanding what it takes to successfully complete a filmmaking project at the highest level, you will develop the skills and discipline necessary to improve your own work, regardless of what you are currently shooting, and will prepare yourself ahead of time for when the big job comes your way.
We will then culminate the day by looking at two of the holy grails of filmmaking: the best sequences and one shot wonders of all time. Weíll take it a step further by dissecting the sequences and shots and highlighting why they work, looking at things as simple as the use of extras, to the inclusion of sound, and the more complex considerations behind the scenes in terms of motion, pace and movement.
